Barwright
Effective date: 29 July 2026
Last updated: 29 July 2026
The short version
Barwright does not collect your data. There is no account to create, no server we operate, and no analytics of any kind. Your training log lives on your device, and — if you have iCloud enabled — in your own private iCloud account, which we cannot access.
We say more below, but nothing that follows contradicts that paragraph.
1. Who we are
Barwright is developed by Tanmay Kharshikar ("we", "us"). You can reach us at tanmaykharshikar@gmail.com.
2. What data the app handles, and where it lives
Barwright stores the information you enter, including:
- workouts, exercises, sets, weights, repetitions, RPE and notes
- routines and templates
- body measurements you choose to record, such as bodyweight and body fat percentage
- app settings, such as your unit preference, bar and plate inventory, and reminder schedule
This information is stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud and have iCloud Drive enabled for Barwright, it also syncs through Apple's CloudKit service to your own private iCloud database, so it is available on your other devices. That database belongs to your Apple Account. We have no access to it, no ability to read it, and no copy of it.
One deliberate exception: measurements imported from Apple Health are not synced, and stay on the device that imported them. See section 4.
We do not operate any server that receives your data, because the app never sends your data anywhere except to Apple's services acting on your behalf.
3. What we collect
Nothing.
Specifically, Barwright contains:
- no analytics or telemetry SDK of any kind
- no advertising, ad identifiers, or ad networks
- no crash-reporting service that transmits your data to us
- no third-party software development kits that collect information
- no user accounts, logins, or profiles held by us
- no tracking across apps or websites
We do not sell, rent, share, or trade your information, because we do not have it.
4. Health data (Apple Health / HealthKit)
If you choose to enable it, Barwright can interact with Apple Health. This is always optional and off until you turn it on. The app is fully functional without it.
What we read. With your permission, Barwright reads bodyweight and body fat percentage so your measurements and bodyweight-exercise volume stay accurate without re-typing them.
What we write. With your permission, Barwright saves your completed workouts to Apple Health as strength-training workouts, including an estimated active energy figure.
How data read from Health is treated. Data Barwright reads from Apple Health:
- stays on your device and in your Apple Health store
- is never synced to iCloud. Measurements imported from Apple Health are stored separately from the rest of your log, in a part of the app's database that is deliberately excluded from iCloud sync. They stay on the device that imported them. Measurements you type in yourself are ordinary app data and do sync (see section 5)
- is never used for advertising, marketing, or any similar purpose
- is never used for data mining or sold to anyone
- is never shared with any third party
- is never transmitted to us, because we operate no server to receive it
How data written to Health is treated. A workout Barwright saves to Apple Health is a copy of a workout you logged in the app. That copy is governed by Apple's own protections, and is never transmitted to us. The original in Barwright is ordinary app data: if you have iCloud sync turned on it syncs to your own private iCloud database along with the rest of your training log, the same as any workout you never sent to Health. See section 5.
You can revoke access at any time in the Health app under Sources or Data Access. Revoking it does not delete anything already saved in Barwright, and the app continues to work normally.
5. iCloud sync
Sync uses Apple's CloudKit private database. Data is stored in your Apple Account, under Apple's terms and privacy policy, and is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple. We are not a party to that storage and cannot retrieve your data from it.
If you sign out of iCloud, disable iCloud for Barwright, or have no network connection, the app continues to work in full, using local storage only.
6. Purchases
Barwright offers optional paid features. All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see or receive your payment card details, billing address, or Apple Account credentials. We receive only the aggregated, anonymised sales reporting that Apple provides to every developer, which does not identify individual customers.
7. Notifications
If you enable rest-timer alerts or workout reminders, Barwright schedules local notifications on your device. These are generated on the device itself. No push server is involved and no notification content leaves your device.
8. Features that share data, at your request
Some features send data outward only when you explicitly choose to use them:
- Export. Exporting your training history creates a CSV file that you choose where to send or save. We receive no copy.
- Recap card. Sharing a workout recap creates an image that you pass to whichever app you select in the system share sheet.
- Import. Importing a CSV reads a file you select. The file is processed entirely on your device.
In each case the destination is chosen by you, and what happens to the data after it leaves Barwright is governed by whichever app or service you sent it to.
9. Third parties
The only third party involved in the operation of Barwright is Apple, which provides the App Store, in-app purchasing, iCloud/CloudKit sync, and Apple Health. Your use of those services is governed by Apple's own terms and privacy policy.
There are no other third parties. The app bundles no third-party libraries that collect data.
10. Children
Barwright is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone — including children — because we do not collect information at all. Strength training carries physical risk, and we recommend the app be used by adults, or by minors under the supervision of a qualified adult.
11. Your rights and your control
Privacy laws in various places — including the GDPR in the European Economic Area and the UK, and the CCPA/CPRA in California — give you rights to access, correct, export, and delete personal information a company holds about you.
We hold no personal information about you, so there is nothing for us to retrieve, correct, or erase. In practice you already have complete control:
- Access and export. Export your full training history to CSV at any time from Settings.
- Correction. Every record in the app is editable.
- Deletion. Deleting a workout, measurement, or exercise removes it. Deleting the app removes all local data. To remove synced data, delete the app's data from iCloud in your device's iCloud settings.
If you believe we hold information about you and want to ask about it, write to tanmaykharshikar@gmail.com and we will respond.
12. Security
Your data is protected by your device's own security — passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and iOS file encryption — and, for synced data, by Apple's CloudKit encryption. Because we operate no server and hold no copy of your data, there is no database of ours that could be breached.
13. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the effective date above and publish the revised policy at this address before the change takes effect. If a change ever meant we started collecting data, we would say so prominently rather than quietly amending this page.
